The Photograph of Memories

Writer: Peter OtaborPeter Otabor

There are somethings we do not forget, moments burned into our memories

until the day we die.

Memories! They can hurt but they can give us reasons to smile, reasons to be thankful for life, for love, for family. They sit at the depth of our souls stilling time in photographs; holding the endless experiences of our lives. They remind us of the realities, of the truths of life and leave either smiles or tears rolling down our cheeks in overwhelming emotions.

Our most cherished moments, our worst experiences and the moments of excruciating pain are buried deep in our memories, indelible images that capture the warmth and depth of life. Memories are life itself and they remain even in death, photographs of time, of the moments of joy, of laughter, of pain, of regrets. They leave us appreciating life more deeply than any other thing. They bring us closer to home, to the warmth of love and to the golden times shared. And we are bound to review them over and over in our hearts, until our last breath.

Time may fade and reality lose its meaning but our memories remain eternally as the crucible that contains the moments we have cherished, the hurts we felt, the dreams we held, the regrets we had and the hopes that sustained us. And as we push every boundary in present life, we hold dearly onto these memories and build on them, building a hope so strongly in our hearts, that our time will be rewarded with more golden and treasured memories.

We hope, as in reality it is all we can do. Though memories can hurt, we still keep them to remind us of life, of opportunities, of time and loves lost, of joys found. So keep them in the depth of your soul and cherish them always. For when you feel lost, when you feel pain, remember every moment of joy, of love and leave a smile on your face. Make a photograph of your memories for yourself and keep it where your heart is never broken, where time is forever frozen still. Hold it deeply and cling to it, like it is as real now, as it was then and feel it with love.

You won’t ever be alone if you have your memories and if you hurt, recall those memories and be thankful for the life you have lived, are living and will live.
