“Grhhhh Grrhhhh” The phone rings.

Shalane jacks up; apparently she had been day dreaming again!

“Hello is this Shalane?” The caller asked.

“Yes it is” She replied.

“My name is Inspector Ola and I ham with the Ajegunle Police Department” The caller said.

“Oh….Ok!” She replied sounding confused.

“Are you familiar with a man named Harthur,” He asked.

\”Harthur!\” She pauses and then responds \”Oh! you mean Arthur\”

\”Yes! Harthur\” He replied.

He goes on to describe him and he did match Arthur’s description.

“Yes! I am. What’s the issue Inspector?” She replied.

“Emm… he is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation. We have been tracking him for quite sometime and our Intel shows he has been making several calls to you over the past few months” He said.

“Oh my God!” She screamed.

“Can you state the nature of your relationship?” He asked.

“Eh…Eh… He\’s just a friend” She replied.

“A friend! Are you kidding me, he made 26 calls to you in the space of one week and he\’s just a friend. Young lady you must be joking.” He said with a loud voice.

\”You are definitely his partner in crime.\” He screamed.

“Me! No Sir! I am a born-again I don\’t do all those bad things. But Sir what can I do?” She cried.

“Well you can start by giving me a call if he contacts you.” He said.

“Alright” She replied with a croaked voice.

“Ok! Have a nice day.” He replied as he dropped the phone.

She couldn’t believe it. She sat still, lost in thought pondering on what the Inspector said. After a while she picked up her phone and called Arthur.

“Hello Arthur, are you coming over, today” She asked.

“Sure darling, see you at 6pm” He replied.

“Ok great! Will be expecting you. Love you!” She replied and drops the phone.

The day was a long one; the inspector’s words kept ringing in her ears.

“Give me a call if he contacts you”

It was 5pm and her shift just closed and Arthur was waiting in the parking lot as usual. She walked briskly and got into the car and they exchanged kisses.

“Hey” Arthur said in his usual bland tone.

“What’s the matter you look distraught, are you not happy to see me.” He asked.

“No! It’s not that, I, I, you know what never mind.\” She replied.

\”C\’mon bae, you know you can tell me anything and i mean anything.\” He said.

\”Emmm….\” She muttered as she starred at him.

She was worried about something and he knew it. So he wrapped his hands around her hoping it would make her feel at ease.

\”C\’mon whats the problem.\” He asked.

\”Ok, Emm… I got a call from the Police today.” She said.

“About what?” He asked.

She paused and looked at him almost as if she was starring at a billboard.

\”About what Shalane?\” He asked again in a loud voice.

“About you being a person of interest in an ongoing investigation” She said.

“So what did you tell them” He asked.

“Nothing!\” She replied.

\”But Arthur did you do anything wrong?” She asked.

“No! You know me baby. I would never do anything wrong” He said.

“But you have never told me where you work and I have never been to your place” She said.

“Calm yourself babe. You will in no time” He responded with a smile on a his face.

Just as he made his way to kiss her she noticed a gun strapped by Arthur’s waist. It was then she knew it was possible the inspector was telling the truth. She smiled looking more intensely at Arthur and kissing him most warmly. She then picked up her phone and pretended to be call a friend.

“Hello Ola! It’s Shalane! My dog is sick, care to come around and check her up” She asked.

“Sure thing!” The caller replied and dropped.

“Who was that?” He asked.

“It’s just Ola, my vet. doctor” She replied.

It was then he realized she knew something. All of a sudden his face changed and it was he pulled out his gun.

“Nice one bitch, nice one. You almost fooled me there a for second but well since you know bitch, I can’t have you walking around spilling my secret.” He said pointing the gun at her head.

“Take over the wheels” He said motioning at her.

She was so scared and she started sobbing.

“Arthur why” She cried.

“Honey just drive before I blow your fucking brains” He said with a grin on his face.

“Where to?” She asked in a low tone.

“Where else honey, Home!” He shouted.

Few minutes later Shalane pulls over into her garage and as she killed the engine, she sat still like a soldier waiting for orders.

“What now?” She asked.

“Get out of the car slowly and I mean slowly” He said.

Holding the gun to her back he ordered her to proceed slowly to the entrance of her apartment. As she was about to open the door her neighbour, Paul yelled.

“Hello Shalane” He yelled.

“Fine Paul” She responded with a plastic smile on her face.

“Who’s the bodyguard?” He asked.

“A friend” She replied waving at him.

\”Hello\” He shouted waving at Arthur.

Arthur waved back with a smile on his face.

\”Alright Shalane see you later.\” He said as he got into his apartment.

Shalane proceeded to open the door to her apartment but her hands were shaky. Arthur noticing pushed her aside, collected the keys and got the door open.

“Get in!” He said.

As they got inside he quickly tied her up while she was sobbing profusely.

“Shut up bitch!” He shouted.

But she kept crying even more profusely. He got so angry with her sobbing that he held her by the throat.

“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” He shouted.

As he let go she instantly she started sobbing again.

\”Arthur why?\” She cried.

Almost spontaneously he dealt a blow on her face and he continuously kept punching until he couldn’t punch any further. By then she was laying sideways on the floor her face swollen with blood all over. He sat her up straight held his gun to her face ready to pull the trigger.

“Bang!”
