The Entrepreneur\’s Journey: Passion and Value

Passion! This is the entrepreneur’s greatest asset. Without passion, his business would merely be a duplication of already established brands and a walk in uncharted territories absent thought. Passion is the fuel, the fuel that sustains the idea, that brightens the horizons of possibility and that eventually translates effort into results. 

Results define everything! Your idea would mean nothing without effort and your effort would be fruitless without results. Results are all that matters. It is what will keep you in business and sustain the passion you have for it. Without results, passion would seem like a fool’s drive and would lose meaning and worth. But with results, you will keep pushing further stretching the bounds of opportunity.

Businesses are centre points of value. They exist out of the act of value creation; it is what makes them relevant and sustainable. Entrepreneurs are value creators; they are business innovators who merge the divide between idea, opportunity and achievement. They leverage on their ability to create innovative offerings that challenges the status quo and opens up new competing grounds. They are driven with passion and see their offerings not as products but as an extension of their value base. They thrive on the idea that where a need exists so does boundless opportunities and so their journey begins filled with expectation.

The entrepreneur’s journey is one of discovery as he soon learns. With challenges and opportunities bound at every corner, decisiveness and a heart for risk are often highly sought qualities. Being passionate is not enough and won’t keep you in business if you don’t translate it into value. It is then he learns that starting a business isn’t just about passion. It’s about offering value. It is the only reason people will patronize you. Money pays the bills not passion and frankly people don’t care so much about your passion as they do about the value you offer. It is the value you offer that attracts them and it is passion that allows you to create that value. It is left for you to figure out how to translate passion into value that generates money. That is the major task.

Value! Value! Value! How do you transform passion into value? Understand the value points of your business. Value points are the unique attributes of your offering or brand; they are the selling points, the value proposition that differentiates you from competition. As an entrepreneur you must define what makes your business stand out, what makes your offering a considerable choice by customers and outline those key strongholds. These strongholds are your competitive edge. They are the key areas where you must channel your passion to create value that rewards efforts. So in making meaning of passion, nurture it and point it like a loaded gun at what makes you unique in business and see value created. Remember to transform passion into value, just channel it not anywhere but into the key areas that define you and what you sell!
