Culture Diversity! Nigeria is a nation with a rich cultural heritage rooted in a deep sense of cultural identity. Before Nigeria were the tribes, sovereign nations of cultural harmony and integrity ruling along tribal planes. There was a deep sense of patriotism to the tribe and out of this grew the ideals of today’s society. But then everything changes with time. Then came the Colonials, the rest is a dive into the history books.
The turning point! Change, the ever constant thorn in the flesh of time. All hail the Queen! The chants. This is the beginning of the new era, the era of the Colonials; subjugation and profit, the thoughts, to war the path. Subjugated, the tribes, their leaders playing the card of war, tribal interest, greed, or common sense, the Colonials pitch their tent and so Nigeria is born; administrative convenience or purposeful union. Nigeria, the union of numerous cultural heritages bound by a common interest in name.
Co-existence! How do you co-exist with people who don’t share your ideals, who don’t understand your culture? Tolerance! And so we begin, tribes co-existing under the great banner of tolerance, a thin thread dangling. Cultural acceptance and the mirage of unity are born.
Chaos! Time gracefully plays its part and takes a toll on everything as the new threat of ambition is sinisterly growing in the shadows. Men hungry and eager for higher depths, greed and desire pulsating in their veins. The tussle begins. The foul smell of greed reeks in the air, smearing all in its path. My own, my own! Everyman for himself or sorry his tribe!
Broken! Tolerance, the thin thread stretched to its limits, it breaks, peace its reward. Tussle, turn and tumble, men take flight. Everyman standing up to fight for his own cause of cultural dominance, sights on the perfect \”imaginarium\” of victory, arms in the air, charging forward, onward soldiers, break the bands of disunity, fight the glorious fight of unity, O! The charge. The war of reason takes course, blood raining down as showers of hate with screams of hopelessness and a plight for survival.
Finally, the air clears, lay desolate life absent meaning, absent existence, common sense prevails or hope simply lost. The first lesson of life is learnt, only the strong survive, the weak vanquished.
Common sense! The new dawn of reason. The uncharted path, men eagerly plough in reconciliation, peace and unity the new song, co-existence; the new experiment and national Identity the banner. I am Nigerian, the voices reek absent defiance, hopelessly clinging to meaning and acceptance. We are Nigerians, all chant! Common sense, the prevailing theme!
The new dawn! National Identity, the ever playing song, acceptance the chorus! Cultural identity, an ever lurking shadow exercising defying dominance and control. Truth or thought! Time paints reality! Men will always stand firm in the understanding that they are first tribesman before men of national interest. Regardless, the focus is National identity, stay the course the charge! But still reason begs what is the strength in diversity? Question or the new message of reason.
