Professional Summary

Peter is a highly experienced strategy consultant and banker with proven record of success in delivering digital banking solutions, strategic FinTech partnerships, digital transformation, strategy development & execution, product development & management and research in both international and emerging markets.

He developed the business case for the adoption of a US$2 million open banking platform for one of the largest commercial banks in sub-Saharan Africa to foster innovation and reduce I.T. capital expenditure by an average of US$1 million annually. Also, developed several products that generated revenue over US$1 million annually.

In a recent role, he wrote and advised on the design and implementation of the first central bank digital currency (CBDC) in Africa for the Central Bank of Nigeria called eNaira. He developed a corporate strategy for a financial holding company in Nigeria. He also advised a venture capital firm on acquisitions within the payment landscape in one of the largest economies in sub-Saharan Africa; advised a financial technology company considering expansion across Africa and assessed the investment landscape in Nigeria for a foreign government entity.

Peter is an author and co-authored the book titled "A Dusky Dawn: First Rays of Hope''. He is passionate about peace and conflict resolution, technology and human psychology.

Head, SME Virtual Banking, First City Monument Bank

  • Leading the development of a digital platform that addresses the core challenges of SMEs and the Bank’s strategy focus to be the leading integrated financial services platform.

  • Leading the development of the Bank’s digital acquisition strategy under its corporate strategy refresh with a core focus on inorganic growth.

  • Developed the strategy framework for the Bank’s digital platform to transition it into an integrated digital platform for SMEs with a core focus on beyond banking.

  • Developed the Bank’s embedded finance and banking-as-a-service proposition to drive digital acquisition by 50% year-on-year.
     

November 2021 - February 2022

Head of Strategy, Union Bank Plc

  • Developed the strategy framework for the Bank’s SME business in order to refocus the business objective for value maximisation. 

  • Drive strategy implementation with business leads across the Retail, SME and Digital banking businesses in order to deliver a 15% - 40% growth in deposit liabilities and revenues.

November 2019 - November 2021

Senior Strategy Consultant and Financial Services Subject Matter Expert, PricewaterhouseCoopers

  • Designed the first CBDC in Africa called the eNaira for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by developing the design and implementation framework.

  • Facilitated the acquisition of an agency banking service by a venture capital firm by performing a business due diligence of the company and advising on the deal. 

  • Articulated the strategic path for a financial holding company in Nigeria with an asset base of US$12 billion by developing its corporate strategy. 

  • Guided a group of promoters to apply for a commercial banking license in Nigeria by preparing a feasibility study, business plan and other regulatory requirements.

November 2010 - October 2019

Senior Digital Innovation and User Experience Analyst, Zenith Bank Plc

  • Pioneered strategic partnerships between the bank and FinTech companies for product development which monetised the bank’s digital assets and created a new income stream for the Bank

  • Reduced capital expenditure by an average of US$0.3 million annually and unlocked new streams of income by developing a business case for the adoption of a US$2 million open banking platform to enable it fully digitise its services.

  • Generated over a US$1 million annually in revenue with the development of five digital services used by over 6 million of the Bank’s customers.

  • Transformed the user experience for the Bank’s mobile banking application which generated revenues above US$6.5million annually.
